The Buffalo Raceway half-mile oval continues to be a perfect fit for Lutetium ($4.00) as he once again dominated the $10,500 Open Trot with a three-quarter-length victory over BZ Glide on Friday night (July 11) in 1:56.2 over the lightning fast track.
It's been an unbelievable stretch for Lutetium at Buffalo Raceway. He's now won seven straight races in Hamburg, including six straight in Open competition. Lutetium has also been in front at every quarter-mile marker during that streak.
It was an expected showdown between Lutetium and BZ Glide and they did not disappoint. Lutetium (Kevin Cummings), in his usual front-running style, took command of the lead and posted fractions of :28.4, :58.3 and 1:27.4. At the three-quarter marker, the only one left in contention was the slightly favoured BZ Glide (Mike Caprio) as the remaining five trotters were waving the white flag. Lutetium had plenty left in the tank, thanks to a :28.3 final panel, as BZ Glide could only get within a non-threatening three-quarters of a length at the wire. Jon Win (David McNeight III) was a distant third.
The win was the 10th in 19 starts this year for Lutetium (Credit Winner-Luby), who is owned by Colleen Girdlestone and trained by Mark Laidlaw. It was also his 21st victory in 57 tries since the beginning of 2013, placing in the money 36 times in that span as well. Lutetium, a seven-year-old gelding, has now earned $56,790 in 2014 and $242,596 lifetime.
