Twin B Tuffenuff Looks To Defend Governor’s Plate Title

Governor’s Plate Week racing kicks off on Sunday, July 13 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway and Twin B Tuffenuff will start his journey to defend his Governor’s Plate title in elimination action.

The Sunday card has 12 dashes starting at 1 p.m (ADT) with four pivotal eliminations on Sunday afternoon, including a pair of $9,000 dashes to decide the field for next Saturday’s 57th edition of the $50,000 Governor’s Plate, presented by Summerside Chrysler Dodge, along with two $7,000 eliminations for the Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares Series.

The first $9,000 Governor’s Plate elimination is carded as the eighth race, with defending champion Twin B Tuffenuff snagging post three for driver Gilles Barrieau, trainer Ron Matheson and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown.

His rivals for the top four spots to advance to the final are Island Beach Boy (Adam Merner, PP1), Middleton Terror (David Dowling, PP2), Tony Too Tall (Myles Heffernan Sr., PP4), Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes, PP5), Roll Em (Marc Campbell, PP6), Little Leroy (Ken Murphy, PP7) and Saulsbrook Ian (Corey MacPherson, PP8).

In Race 12, the second elimination to determine the other four finalists, Save America will aim to stay perfect as the Jamie Smith trainee has three straight wins on P.E.I. for driver Murphy and owner Thestable.ca. The son of Captaintreacherous will leave from post two in his elim on Sunday afternoon.

Also in the field are All Bets On Tex (Jason Hughes, PP1), Like A Glove (Marc Whebby, PP3), Bounty Hunter (Kenny Arsenault, PP4), Blood Money (Gilles Barrieau, PP5), Merigo Magic (Adam Merner, PP6), Miki Shan N (Marc Campbell, PP7) and High Voltage Deo (Corey MacPherson, PP8).

The first $7,000 Ruby Chappell Memorial Open Mares elimination heads to the gate in the sixth race with Freaky Fanny the top choice from post five for trainer-driver Darren Crowe over top challengers Sugar Bowl (Barrieau) and Woodmere Kennedie (Marc Campbell).

The second Chappell elimination is in Race 10 with Rosetown Mary (MacPherson) getting respect off the rail over seven rivals including Plain Jane (Barrieau) and Redland Misspretty (Paul Langille).

Governor’s Plate Week continues with live harness racing every evening from Tuesday through Friday at 6 p.m. (ADT) culminating in the Governor’s Plate final card set for 4 p.m., on Saturday, July 19.
