Tara Hills Stud Farm has announced that longtime stallion Sportswriter will have a new base of operations for the 2026 breeding year.

Sportswriter is en route to Prince Edward Island and will stand stud at Ashley MacDonald's Kingsmen Equine.

To date, Sportswriter is the sire of the winners of more than $83 million, and has sired two millionaires in O'Brien Award winner Jimmy Freight and Karma Seelster. His average earnings per starter is $80,270 and he has sired 854 winners.

Trained by Casie Coleman during his on-track career, Sportswriter earned $1,649,411 while taking a three-year-old mark of 1:48.3s. As part of his O'Brien Award winning rookie season, he won the $1 million Metro Pace at age two in 1:49.2, and then added the $1,500,000 North America Cup to his resume at age three.

Sportswriter was loaded on his chariot to head to Canada's east coast on Thursday.

"We have loved having Sportswriter here at Tara Hills Stud," said the farm's owner and general manager David Heffering, "and we will miss him, but we're also very excited to watch for his continued success in the Maritimes. Best of luck to Ashley and Sportswriter!"

A 2026 stud fee has yet to be announced. For further information, contact Ashley at [email protected] or (613) 581-7292.
