Dizzy Lizzy brought a first-over challenge to fruition, then resisted a late charge to win the $8,784 featured conditioned pace for fillies and mares at Vernon Downs on Thursday, July 10.
Escape The House (Shawn McDonough) blitzed the first quarter in :25.4 on the lead, but he was pocketed by Made Of Misschief (John MacDonald) just after that station, the latter leading to the half in :55.1. Dizzy Lizzy pulled out for Ron Harp around the final turn, putting pressure on Made Of Misschief to three-quarters in 1:24.
Dizzy Lizzy surged to the front as they reached the stretch and held off the closing Abuelita Hanover (Chris Long) to win by a quarter-length in a lifetime-best 1:52.3. Ideal Entry (Dylan Huckabone-Miller) finished third.
Dizzy Lizzy ($7.30) notched her second victory of the season in seven tries. Ron Harp trains the four-year-old So Surreal-Circle Game mare for owners Nicholas Gibides and Diane and Venitia Harp. She has won six of 27 career starts.
All eight races on the card were won by a unique trainer and driver.
Vernon Downs hosts its next card of live racing on Friday with a post time of 5:05 p.m.
