Wheels On Fire ran his win streak to six while also taking his fourth consecutive victory in the $34,000 Preferred Pace at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday (July 10).
Driver Doug McNair wasted no time with the 2-5 favourite and sent Wheels On Fire to the lead before a :27.4 first quarter with Rockme Rollme settling into second. Wheels On Fire raced unchallenged to a :56.3 half and started to accelerate to three-quarters in 1:24 before putting away his competition and coasting to a 1:50.1 win by 3 1/4 lengths. Sintra took second from Rockme Rollme in third.
Owned by Brad Grant, six-year-old Somebeachsomewhere gelding Wheels On Fire won his eighth race from 11 starts this season and his 30th from 79 overall, earning $516,523. He paid $2.80 to win.
