Junebugs Baby and trainer/driver Fraser Turnbull highlighted the harness action on track with a victory in Northside Downs' top class during Bring A Friend Day on Saturday afternoon.
Junebugs Baby took over the lead from Putnams Power at the three-quarters mark in the featured $1,100 Winners Over Pace and drew off to win by three and a quarter lengths over that rival in a final time of 1:57.1. The six-year-old son of Western Paradise is now two-for-three to start the season. Last week's winner, Sweet Sweet Rosco, finished third this time out.
Fraser Turnbull and co-owner John Turnbull Jr. were also victorious with Junebugs Baby's younger half-brother Jarrcoh, who took a new lifetime mark of 2:02.2 as he prevailed for the first time in his four-year-old campaign by a neck over pacesetter Gigolos Boozer.
There was many new faces at Northside Downs for the Bring A Friend promotion. The Downs provided a double-seated jog cart for fans to experience being on the track with other horses and what is involved for the trainers and drivers. The Downs also provided pony rides for kids and a meet and greet with some of the drivers and trainers.
