Goodbye Ceia Later bid adieu to 6-5 co-favourites Stash The Cookies and Outlawguns N Roses in the stretch as she scored a mild upset in the $16,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs on Wednesday, July 9.
Starting from the rail, Phil Giesbrecht called on her for speed to secure the three-hole as Stash The Cookies (Brandon Campbell) motored to the front and cut an opening quarter of :26.4. After a :55.2 half, Goodbye Ceia Later left the cones and went to work on Stash The Cookies through three-quarters in 1:23.4 with Outlawguns N Roses (Mike Hennessy) shifting out onto the challenger's back.
Stash The Cookies had no response at the pylons, and Goodbye Ceia Later sprinted to the front at the top of the stretch. Outlawguns N Roses then tipped out to attempt a rally, but Goodbye Ceia Later was too tough and sealed the victory by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:52.4. Outlawguns N Roses finished second over Grey Sea (Kelly Hoerdt).
Goodbye Ceia Later took her first Preferred win since April for conditioner Chris Lancaster, who co-owns the mare with Velda Olding of Abbotsford, B.C. She lowered her seasonal mark with her sixth win of 2025 in 19 attempts. The six-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon-Ba Bye Ceia Later has won 24 times and earned $199,724 in 110 lifetime starts. She paid $9.90 to win.
