With a pair of Open Trot victories in the rearview mirror, Jessiejesorjessica will head to the gate as the morning line favourite in the Thursday evening feature at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The 11-dash program starts at 6 p.m. Red Shores and industry officials will be monitoring the weather system approaching Prince Edward Island. Updates will be provided by 12 noon.

Race 8 is the top assignment, the $3,300 Open Handicap Trot, with Jessiejesorjessica the 5-2 morning line favourite from the assigned post six for driver David Dowling, trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Danny Birt. The eight-year-old Justice Hall mare won her last two outings at this level and now sits at 47 lifetime wins.

Her stablemate, New Legacy, has rail control from the Doyle barn with Adam Merner in the bike. A 14-time winner in 2023, the Father Patrick gelding is looking for his first victory of 2024. Alcina, to be driven by Ken Murphy, has post two for Doyle after winning her 2024 debut last week.

Veteran pacer Labero (Corey MacPherson) will start from post three for trainer Randy Van Meer in his second attempt at the Open level this month after stepping up in class from a career-best win on June 27.

Mile Hill Willie (Gilles Barrieau) holds down post four for trainer Paul Morrison as he makes his first start since July of 2023.

Irish Ray (Marc Campbell) has put together four straight second-place finishes this season on P.E.I. from the Landon Campbell outfit and has post five on Thursday.

The Post Time Picks likes New Legacy on top: “New Legacy has been sharp since arriving on the Island and really not that far away. There’s little doubt Adam will be guarding the cones and if that’s the case, he could return to his winning ways.”

Woodmere Rollily is the top choice in the race 11 finale of conditioned-claiming mares going for a $3,050 purse. Merner will drive the Melissa Rennie trainee as she seeks her third straight win for owners Marsha Knox and Cory Livingston from post six. Her chief rivals are listed as Outrageous Style (Barrieau) from post eight and Elm Grove Redwine (Dowling) with post four.
