Open pacing mare Sing Like An Angel kicked off another multiple win night at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino for the Calgary track's leading trainer and driver, Travis Cullen.
Leaving outside her rivals in a field scratched down to just a quartet of mares in the $11,500 first race feature, 6-5 favourite Sing Like An Angel was hung outside through a contested :26.4 opening quarter before clearing to command ahead of Rummys Command and Keith Clark. Cullen rated a second panel to the half in :56 and kept his mare on task through three-quarters in 1:24.4. Rummys Command then pulled the pocket, but Sing Like An Angel drew off by nearly four lengths down the stretch to win in 1:54 flat. Rummys Command settled for second-place following an Open victory last time out on June 26. Blue Star Beauty and Kelly Hoerdt finished third while Nighttraintovegas and Brandon Campbell completed the field.
Cullen and his mother Jodie share ownership of the five-year-old mare with Keith and Margaret Hannah of Waskada, Manitoba. Friday's victory was the 30th lifetime for the daughter of Bettors Delight, who has racked up seven wins and has finished no worse than third in 13 starts this season to earn $51,260.
Cullen, who is currently the nation's leading percentage driver and trainer, won three of Friday's first four races as mares Runway Model and Wigesjet tallied back-to-back victories. He later picked up another victory with sophomore pacing colt Escalante.
