Reports out of Nova Scotia indicate that Sunday's card of harness racing at Truro, a raceway with roots that date back 138 years this October, could be the track's last.

A letter sent to Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission Executive Director Paul Hogan signed by David Clark on behalf of the Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Board states the following:

"The Nova Scotia Provincial Exhibition Commission board of directors would like to inform the Maritime Provinces Harness Racing Commission that as of July 14, 2013 live racing and simulcasting will be discontinued at Truro Raceway. After live race day events on that date the track will be closed."

NSPE general manager Roger McCallum told the Truro Daily News that the decision was made said due to finances.

Officials with Truro Raceway have touched base with Trot Insider and have stated that "notices (have been) handed out to horsemen today (Wednesday, July 10). Sunday (July 14) is last day for live racing and simulcast. All horses off grounds by August 15."

The Truro Harness Horse Owners Association has reached out to the provincial government to discuss a solution that would keep the grounds open for stabling and training.
