After requiring two sessions of baby races last weekend, a more compact offering of 13 two-year-old qualifiers went postward at Mohawk Racetrack on Canada Day morning.
Leading the way on the trotting side was Lucys Man for driver Mike Saftic and trainer Tan Micallef. Saftic sat the pocket with the freshman for the first half of the mile and then commenced a first-over bid against Majestic Streak (Randy Waples). Lucys Man put away the early pacesetter and scored a comfortable two-plus length victory in 2:02.2 (track listed as 'good').
A $37,000 yearling purchase from the Canadian Yearling Sale, Lucys Man (Muscle Mass - Desi Seelster) is owned by 1187422 Ontario Inc. of Ottawa, Ont.
On the pacing side, Mc Mach was fleetest of foot by virtue of a 1:57.3 score. Driver Paul MacDonell engineered the one-length decision behind the Bob McIntosh homebred. McIntosh trains and co-owns the son of Mach Three - Northern Empress along with Al McIntosh Holdings Inc. of Leamington, Ont and Randy Liepa of Livonia, Mich.
