Narragansett and Jason Hughes captured the $1,900 featured Canada Day pace during racing action Tuesday at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Hughes used a hard first-over grind with Narragansett to wear down pacesetter Lisfinny (Norris Rogers), after laying down fractions of :28.2, :57.3 and 1:27.1. Narragansett got up to score a four-length victory in 1:56, with PC Shockwave (Brian MacPhee) second and Lisfinny third. Narragansett is trained by Hughes for owner Foxyhall Racing of Wallace, Nova Scotia.
The $1,700 back-up pace went to Mcmaverick in 1:59.2 for driver Ken Murphy and owner-trainer Keith Campbell of Tyne Valley. SA Summers Luck (Gary Chappell) was second with Onehotvett (Wade Sorrie) third.
I Aint No Lady captured the afternoon’s $1,200 trot class in 2:02.1, upsetting heavily-favoured Honeymoonisover (Brian Andrew), with Scarlet Patti (Darryl MacLean) third. I Aint No Lady was driven by Corey MacPherson for trainer Garth Cole and owner Sandra Cole of Kensington, PEI.
Hughes doubled up on the final race of the card, winning with Mcjestic for trainer Troy Murray in 1:57.1, while Marc Campbell scored a driving triple with Astronomical Union (1:58), Casimir Luciano (1:57.3) and OK Chivas (1:58.3).
Driver MacPherson had two wins, with the second coming with Bad Date in 1:58.3, while Chappell and trainer Willis Silliker teamed up for a driving-training double with Canaco Paso (2:00.2) and Ultimate Success (1:57.3).
Other winners include Modern Girl (Mike Stevenson) in 1:59.4., Miracleonthehudson (Rogers) in 2:00.2 and Bloomins Last (Walter Cheverie) in 2:00.4. Total wager for the 13-dash card was $20,974.
