Caliban and Shahbash captured their respective divisions of the 6K Pacing Series at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday evening, with each split carrying a purse of $4,800.

Michel Frenette's Caliban turned a pocket trip in the opening tilt into a nose victory. Stephane Gendron engineered the trip for the Marc Lamarche trainee, who halted the teletimer in 1:57.4.

The six-year-old son of Covert Action, who was sent off as a 14-1 outsider, held off race favourite Lancelot Hall by the slimmest of margins. Espoir D Avril rounded out the top three.

Shahbash notched the 50th win of his career and his second in the series when he front-stepped to a 1:59 triumph in the second division. The 10-year-old son of Bilateral has yet to finish worse than second five preliminary legs of the series.

The veteran chopped out panels of :27.4, :58.4 and 1:29.1 before stepping home in :29.4 for driver Guy Gagnon en route to the win. Perfectcambination tagged along to finish in the runner-up spot and O Cs Blackjack was third.

The Serge Cardinal pupil, who has banked in excess of $286,000, is owned by Michel Lacroix of Gatineau, QC.
