Horseplay Hits Mohawk!

Over 60 young horse lovers from the Milton area, along with their parents took part in Horseplay, an educational and interactive workshop on horses and harness racing, at Mohawk Racetrack on Tuesday night

.

Standardbred Canada and Woodbine Entertainment partnered on the event, which was targeted to local Girl Guide troops with members ranging in age from 6 to 12.

Scott Zeron welcomed the group before they headed out to the tarmac to take part in the one hour event which featured five interactive stations including a demonstration by Mohawk’s blacksmith Stephane Gauthier, a harness racing primer by Greg Gangle, a meet and greet with some of the stars in the sport, an overview of horse nutrition by Anjelka Bosnjak, a vet student at the University of Guelph and an overview of the day in the life of a horse in courtesy of the Ontario Standardbred Adoption Society.

Many of the kids joined Scott Zeron in the winner’s circle, after cheering him on to victory in race two with Alsace Hanover.

There will be a second Horseplay night at Mohawk on Tuesday, June 21, starting at 5:45 p.m. This program is available at no charge to local kids groups and individuals who pre-register.
