Serious Injuries Avoided At Summerside

Drivers Mike Stevenson and Gary Chappell escaped serious injuries when their charges were interfered with and fell in an accident at Summerside Raceway on Wednesday

evening.

Astreos Angel (Terry Gallant) was racing in fifth position on the outside when he caused the accident in the sixth race before the three-quarters mark. East Coast Yankee (Mike Stevenson), to his inside, and A Teddy A Shine (Gary Chappell), following, were interfered with and fell.

Reports from Summerside indicate that East Coast Yankee was captured in the paddock after unseating his driver and was examined by a vet while A Teddy A Shine did not get loose. Both horses appeared to suffer only minor scraps.

Astreos Angel went on the win the race over pacesetter Magic Thunder (Norris Rogers), but was disqualified for causing the accident.

Both Stevenson and Chappell returned to action in the following race.

Trot Insider will provide more details on the incident if made available.
