Black Tie Bash followed cover on a second-over trip to the winner's circle in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Thursday evening (June 8) at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Robert Shepherd and Black Tie Bash got away fifth in the field of six, 6-1/2 lengths off the leader through the quarter in :28.2. Pierre Bovay was the first to pull the right line with Never Mind N and Black Tie Bash followed behind as they passed the half in :58 and three-quarters in 1:26.2. Black Tie Bash moved around his fading cover to meet Donatover around the final turn. Down the stretch, Black Tie Bash gave himself a bit of distance, winning by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55. Donatover (Stephane Brosseau) was second and Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) finished third.
Black Tie Bash is a five-year-old Chapter Seven son trained by Isabelle Darveau for owner Robert Shepherd. The gelding has a record of 21-10-9 in 66 starts with $171,408 in career earnings. It was the third win in three starts this year for Black Tie Bash.
