Former Ontario Stars Battle Stateside

Tall Cotton let Tamarind do the heavy lifting on the lead, then blew by him in the Lightning Lane to score a narrow victory in Monday’s $18,000 Preferred Handicap Trot.

After enjoying a pocket trip, Tall Cotton had little trouble outkicking Tamarind for Dave Palone. The greater danger, however, was wide, where Trustworthy Kid was unleashing a strong late bid. Tall Cotton kept a nose in front of Trustworthy Kid at the wire, prevailing in 1:53.1, while Tamarind saved show.

Ron Burke trains Tall Cotton, a nine-year-old Revenue S-B Cor Peatra gelding who now boasts $654,040 in career earnings, for Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Edwin Gold and Howard Taylor. It was one of three wins on the 14-race card for Palone.

THE MEADOWS TUESDAY CARD: $10,000 PICK 5 GUARANTEE, $5,000 PICK 4 GUARANTEE

On Tuesday, June 9, the live card at The Meadows Racetrack & Casino will feature two total-pool guarantees — a $10,000 guarantee for the Pick 5 and a $5,000 guarantee for the Pick 4. Both are offered as part of the United States Trotting Association's Strategic Wagering Initiative.

While $5,000 Pick 4 guarantees are offered every live card, The Meadows added the “instant” Pick 5 guarantee after Monday’s Pick 5 was uncovered, resulting in a two-day carryover of $2,740.54.

Minimum wager for the Pick 4 (races 4-7) and Pick 5 (races 10-14) is 50 cents. Since Pennsylvania law requires a minimum per-race wager of $2, a player wagering at the 50-cent level must bet at least four tickets.

First post for Tuesday’s program is 12:55 PM.
