Sharp off a nine-week layoff, Tequila Talkin roared from the pocket through the final turn, wore down the leader, Emeralds Legacy, and captured the $29,041 Open Trot on Thursday, June 6 at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Tequila Talkin grabbed the early lead but released Emeralds Legacy, who had to duel three-wide to get there. Tequila Talkin continued to stalk from the pocket until Ronnie Wrenn Jr. cut him loose. The nine-year-old Cantab Hall-Margarita Nights gelding needed the entire stretch to do it, but he got by the game Emeralds Legacy to triumph in 1:52.2. The ground-saving Double Account finished second, three-quarter lengths back, while Emeralds Legacy saved show.

Ron Burke trains Tequila Talkin, who now has won 54 races and $619,036 lifetime, for Burke Racing Stable and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.

Wrenn collected five wins on the 13-race card, including four for Burke.

The Friday, June 7 program at The Meadows features the 50th edition of the $52,355 Currier & Ives Filly Stakes for three-year-old trotters. On the wagering front, the card offers a $1,377.01 carryover in the Early Pentafecta (Race 4). First post is 5:10 p.m.
