'Name That Foal' Winner Announced

The Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) announced the winning name from the 2016 'Name That Foal' contest on Sunday, June 5 at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.

The contest, sponsored by Meridian Farms, included categories for Best Name, Best Letter and Best Drawing, with age groups separating entrants as 'Ages 8 & Under' and 'Ages 9 to 16.'

The overall winning name selected from 88 submissions from across the country for the contest's foal, a beautiful bay filly by Riverboat King out of Mrs Red Pop, is Lollipop Yacht. The name was submitted by Sadie from the 'Ages 9 to 16' category.

The finalists and their families enjoyed a great day at the track with their submissions showcased on the big screen and announced by "The Voice of Century Downs," Murray Slough.

Best Name & Overall Winner - Lollipop Yacht - Sadie
Honourable Mention for Best Name - Red River Rebel - Paxton
Best Letter - Carla

Ages 8 & Under:
Best Name - Jelly Bean - Seth
Best Letter - Brooke
Best Drawing - Maia
