Driver James MacDonald sent Tattoo Artist for the front and battled all challengers to take the $58,500 Free-For-All Pace on Saturday (June 4) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The five-year-old Hes Watching stallion secured the lead out of post six to a :27 first quarter with Wheels On Fire settling for the pocket. Tattoo Artist kept the whole field in line behind him by speeding to a :55.1 half and accelerating into the final turn, tripping three-quarters in 1:21.4. The Doc Moore trainee swung into the stretch but faced a late challenge as Wheels On Fire gathered steam from the pocket and cut his two-length deficit through the lane. But Tattoo Artist held firm on the point to win by a half-length in 1:48.3. Desperate Man finished third another three lengths behind with Ignatius A taking fourth.
Owned by Let It Ride Stables Inc., Frank Cannon and Diamond Creek Racing, Tattoo Artist won his third race from 10 starts this season and his 23rd from 57 overall. He has banked $1,385,064 and paid $4.50 to win.
