A compact field of five lined up in Monday’s $9,500 Open Pace at Century Downs, and much to the delight of the favourite players – Pillage And Burn came away victorious in the featured affair.
Sent off as the even-money choice, Pillage And Burn parlayed a pocket trip into a 1:53.3 score for the tandem of driver J.F. Gagne and trainer Marjorie Dumont.
Cool Cowboy blasted to the lead and carved out panels of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:25.1 before giving way to Pillage And Burn in the closing strides. Pillage And Burn kicked home in :28 to win by a length over Cool Cowboy, with Johnny Gun another two lengths back in third.
Gagne shares ownership on the six-year-old son of Cams Card Shark-Sky Yankee with Peter Van Seggelen of Foothills, AB. It was the second victory of the season for the 12-time winner who has banked just under $75,000 to date.
