Post 10 No Problem At Mohawk

Overcoming the dreaded ten-hole is no easy task on the WEG circuit, especially when it comes to trotters. But that hasn’t been the case since harness racing has returned to Mohawk Racetrack for the Summer/Fall racing meet.

Aphrodity overcome a Post 10 start to win Thursday’s first race at the Campbellville, Ontario oval, and in doing so she became the fourth trotter of the meet to win from the treacherous post.

From the 26 trotters to start from Post 10 so far this meet, four of them have found their way to victory lane. That’s a winning percentage of 15.4% - the third highest other than Post 7 (19.4%) and Post 6 (15.8%).

It’s significantly higher than the numbers put up by trotters that started from Post 10 at Woodbine Racetrack during the 2014 season. From the 108 trotters starting from Post 10 at the Rexdale, Ontario oval only two horses managed to find their way to victory lane from the unenviable starting spot. That equates to a miniscule winning percentage of 1.9%.

So the next time you’re ready to discard a trotter from Post 10 at Mohawk Racetrack, you might want to reconsider.
