Leaving from post position three, Parker sent Baseball Express to the front and would not relinquish the lead parking Sharpshootennorris (Greg Merton) through fractions of :27.3, :56.1, and 1:25.1. As the field headed around the last turn, Parker went to work on Baseball Express and rebuffed the first over challenge of Andover America (Bruce Ranger) to win in 1:54.1. New Revenue (Fern Paquet Jr.) trotted on late to take second, while Think Gold (Scott Mongeon) finished third.
Michael Deters trains the six-year-old son of Conway Hall-Pine Booth for Kevin Burch of Springboro, Ohio. It was the sixth win of the year for Baseball Express in seventeen starts, and with the victory increased his seasonal earnings to more than $53,000.
