Buffalo Newcomer Wins Mares Open

On what turned out to be a cooler night with a slower track than normal, CS Kentucky proved she was the best “new shooter” coming to Buffalo Raceway.

The race set up almost perfectly for this mare, who was set as the longshot in the morning line. When the $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace began, Vla Faire (Drew Monti) went right to the lead and Yonkers invader CS Kentucky followed on to the turn as Shes A Maniac got left on the outside. By the time the field reached the backstretch, CS Kentucky had a ton of pace and went right to the lead before the quarter

When they came by the stands the first time, CS Kentucky had to deal with the challenge of Shes A Maniac for just a brief moment and hit the half in :58.3, slowing it down her own way to a :30-second second panel.

It appeared Taylor Rei (Ray Fisher Jr.) would move on by as they reached the three-quarter marker in 1:27.4, but CS Kentucky found more as Vla Faire sat in the pocket spot.

When they entered the stretch, Vla Faire was the one to challenge and just missed to CS Kentucky at the line in what was a stellar race from both mares. The time of the mile was 1:56.1.

CS Kentucky (Dream Believer-Cams Britt-Cambest) is trained by Alex Giuliani and was claimed in her last start by Paul and Ronald Louis Viele of Batavia, New York. This was the fourth win in 14 starts for this six-year-old mare.

Live racing continues on Friday night with a first post of 6:40 p.m.
