Three $20,000 divisions of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) stakes for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings went postward Monday as part of a 13-race program at Harrington Raceway

.

Legacy Racing of Delaware, Nanticoke Racing, Niel Gargiulo and Louie Paglieriani’s Flying Instructor ($2.10, Corey Callahan) was the fastest winner with a 1:53.2 dominating win. The popular 1-to-9 favourite left from post five and seized command before the quarter mile and was never headed in his three-length win over Sambad. Redneck Fortune rallied late for third.

Trained by Wayne Givens, the three-year-old Badlands Hanover colt improved to a perfect 4-for-4 in 2012 after sweeping the DSBF events at Dover Downs.

Eli Scott and Greg Simendinger’s Its Outta Here ($2.20, Victor Kirby) took the second division in 1:54.4. Trained by Scott, the Three Olives colt made the lead near the quarter-mile mark and held off pocket sitting Chizzled in Stone for the win. Ladys Bag Man was third.

Last year’s Harrington DSBF winner, Gary and Barbara Iles Shaving Mug ($2.20, Montrell Teague), made his three-year-old debut a winning one with a 1:55.3 triumph for trainer George Teague. Shaving Mug, a Badlands Hanover gelding, won six of nine of starts at age two, but was sidelined after an injury kept him out the early part of this season. Shaving Mug didn’t appear to miss a beat with his two-length score over Three Mints and Bail Money.

The top eight point getters will return to compete in a $100,000 Final on July 26. The second elimination leg of the DSBF stakes for pacing colts will be held Monday June 11.

In the overnight feature, Elizabeth Brittingham’s As Bad As Thunder ($3.60, Bret Brittingham) claimed his seventh win of the season with a front-stepping 1:53 triumph in the $18,000 Open Pace. Bad Rusty rallied for second while Catchmecullen A was third.
