Euphoria Seelster got an early jump on her rivals after interference was caused to the rest of the field by an early breaker, allowing her to coast to victory in the $2,950 Fillies & Mares Pacing Series Final at Northside Downs
on Saturday afternoon.
After winning her last two divisions of the three leg series, Euphoria Seelster was able to secure a 10 length lead early on while the rest of the field was scattered due to the breaking Camilla Jet (Ryan Campbell). The five-year-old daughter of Modern Art-Eye To Eye, driven by trainer Edgar Jacobs, carved out fraction of :29.1, :58.2 and 1:30 before stopping the clock in a season’s-best 2:01.3. Shes Got Appeal (Harold Leblanc Jr.), who was denied the series sweep, recovered to finish second, four and a half lengths behind, while Fernhill Thunder (Angelo Camilli), a first leg winner, was third.
Owned by Dan Lewis of Blacketts Lake, N.S., Euphoria Seelster notched her third win from four starts this year. She has won 12 times over the course of her career to bank $131,221. She paid $7 to win as the 5-2 second choice.
This week’s edition of the $1,000 Winners Over Pace, featuring a field of just four with the scratch of Heres Harley, went to Cruisinart, who cruised past panels of :29.3, :59.3 and 1:28.2 en route to a six length triumph in 1:57.1 for trainer-driver Myles Heffernan. Woodmere Westerner (Greg Sparling) finished back in second over pocket-sitter Game Zac (Alex MacNeil).
Cruisinart paid $3.60 to win as the popular choice in the field. The eight-year-old gelded son of Real Artist-Yieldtotheprincess, who is now three-for-five this year for owner Johnny Heffernan of Reserve Mines, N.S., has won 25 times in his career while banking $87,006.
Kevin Bailey sent out three of the 13 winners on the card, including Pams Character ($8.30), Yankee First Hanna ($6.70) and Lifes Win ($4.80).
