Granted it's only their second career start but there is a showdown set for Wednesday, July 2 at Buffalo Raceway in the $110,200 USD New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) for the two-year-old filly trotters.
The battle for early supremacy in the division is set between My Philomene and Overalls, who both were victorious in their respective $73,288 NYSS races at Monticello Raceway on June 23. Both fillies went wire to wire to kick off their racing careers.
My Philomene (Chapter Seven-Irish Melody) gets the benefit of starting from the rail at Buffalo Raceway. In her debut, she managed to reach the top from the six post and posted a head in 2:01. The Jared Bako trainee will get the services of Jason Bartlett in the sulky.
Overalls (Devious Man-Over Joyed) will start for the five-hole for driver Jordan Stratton. Fresh off a 2-3/4-length score at Monticello in 2:01.3, she looks to keep winning. Overalls is trained by Cory Stratton.
One to keep a close eye on is Sharp Seven (Chapter Seven-Lookin Sharp). In her lone try in the NYSS, she was making a bold move but broke stride at the three-quarter marker and finished a distant sixth to Overalls. Jeff Gregory will steer Sharp Seven from the fourth position for conditioner George Ducharme.
Makeittothebell (Chapter Seven-Alanas Brilliance) makes the jump up to the NYSS after a solid second-place finish in the Excelsior Series. She only lost by a head in 2:02.4 and will have Brett Beckwith to drive for Ducharme.
Others in the field include Trinitys Diamond (Todd Ratchford), B Eyelash (Kevin Cummings) and Shoppin For Gucci (Jeremy Morrison).
The 14-race card will open as a six-pack of two-year-old filly trotters chase after a $20,000 USD purse in the Excelsior Series. First post is set for 2:30 p.m.
