Wild Dragon Wins Island Debut

Former Ontario campaigner Wild Dragon made his first start on the East Coast a winning one in the Preferred Pace at Summerside Raceway on Sunday afternoon for trainer and co-owner Darren Trainor.

Leaving from post seven in the $2,300 featured finale, Wild Dragon and driver Gilles Barrieau gave way to the popular outsider Proven Lover (Terry Gallant) and played follow-the-leader through fractions of :26.2, :56.1 and 1:25.3 before kicking home in :28.4 to prevail by two and a half lengths in 1:54.4. All Turain (Marc Campbell) was the best of the rest, finishing almost eight lengths behind in third.

The win was Wild Dragon's first of the season in 19 starts. He now sports a career record reading 17-20-10 in 82 races with earnings totalling $224,602.

Vernon River's Jennifer Trainor shares ownership of the five-year-old Dragon Again gelding.
