A winner in Sudbury Downs' season-opening Preferred event at the beginning of June, Daddy Warbucks returned to victory lane on Sunday in the track's final feature pace of the month.

Trainer/driver Gerry Belanger sent his six-year-old Western Hanover gelding from last to first in the $6,000 Preferred 2 Handicap to stop the clock in 1:56.2. Deuces And Jacks (Paul MacLean), favourite Shiny Mach (Justin Turcotte) and Riding With P (Mike MacNeill) inherited the second, third and fourth placings after the judges set the initial runner-up, Hoosier King (David Dowling), back to fifth for causing interference.

Daddy Warbucks paid $8 to win as the 3-1 second choice. The victory was his third this season and 22nd lifetime, pushing his bankroll to $209,439.

Earlier on the card, Windsong Experanza was a repeat winner in the $4,400 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 Pace for Dowling and trainer Mike Lamoureux, who co-owns the eight-year-old Astreos mare with Marc Belisle of Val Caron, Ont. The favourite went gate-to-wire in 1:58, winning by nearly two lengths over Mary Rita Hanover (Wayne MacLean) and Mellow Jenny (Mario Rivest).
