Eyes Dont Lie came up big to win the $10,800 featured Mares Open Handicap Pace on Friday night (June 2) at Northville Downs.
The six-year-old Roll With Joe mare, being driven by trainer/owner Winter Asher-Stalbaum, scored in off-the-pace fashion by one length after Princess Rougarou (Jason Merriman) set the early fractions of :27.2, :56 and 1:25 to three-quarters. Eyes Dont Lie stormed by in the lane to stop the timer in 1:55.4. Last week’s Open winner, Coqui Coqui (Justin Irvine), got up for second and Princess Rougarou settled for third.
The victory was the 17th of Eyes Dont Lie’s career and her lifetime earnings now stand at $118,867.
Trainer/driver David Lake and owner David Beachy both had triples on the night. Drivers Justin Irvine, Art McIlmurray and Lindsay Moen all had driving doubles on the card.
Racing at The Ville returns on Saturday, June 3 at 7 p.m.
