Icanflylikeanangel held off a determined challenge from Perlucky to notch his second straight victory in Friday’s $16,000 Open Handicap Trot at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Icanflylikeanangel enjoyed a :29 second-quarter breather on top but soon had to deal with the uncovered bid of Perlucky. The two duelled for more than a quarter-mile, but the eight-year-old Archangel-Fox Valley London gelding hung tough for Mike Wilder and edged Perlucky by a head in 1:53.2. Donatover shot the Lightning Lane for show.
Randy Bendis trains the winner, who lifted his lifetime bankroll to $591,447, and owns with Pollack Racing LLC.
Dave Palone piloted four winners and Hunter Myers three on the 12-race card.
Live racing at The Meadows continues Saturday when the program features a pair of stakes for three-year-old colt and gelding trotters: a $133,106 Pennsylvania Sires Stakes and a $60,000 PA Stallion Series event. On the wagering front, the card offers two carryovers: $11,364.12 in the Jackpot Pick 5 (race four), $709.23 in the final-race Super Hi-5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
