Penn National Gaming and Endeka Entertainment have announced that they have submitted a proposal to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board for a $225 million raceway and casino, the project formerly known as Valley View Downs.
According to a report by WKBN 27, Penn National will develop and mange the project.
The article explains that Endeka had until this past Friday (May 31) to secure financing for the project after having been granted an extension earlier this year. Endeka and Penn National are jointly seeking the last casino license in the state.
The racino project, now dubbed the Lawrence Downs Casino and Racing Resort, will feature 40 live table games, 1,250 slots and 10 poker tables. The report states that Penn National will take a one-third ownership stake.
Lawrence Downs will be located in Mahoning Township near the intersection of State Route 551 and State Route 422, approximately 60 miles north of Pittsburgh.
“Endeka Entertainment is pleased to partner on this project with Penn National Gaming, the nation’s leading racing and gaming company,” Manuel Stamatakis, the initial Managing General Partner of Endeka, said via release. “We are particularly pleased to bring this economic development project to Lawrence County as it will generate a significant number of new local jobs and other benefits.”
“There have been a lot of ups and a lot of downs," Lawrence County Commissioner Dan Vogler was quoted as saying. "This has certainly been an up for us and we’re excited, again we think not only for Lawrence County, but for the entire region. This will be a real economic shot in the arm for us.”
