The Huntsville mare Threecurtaincalls, a stakes winner at British Columbia’s Fraser Downs in 2024 and 2025, went the mile of her life on Monday, June 29 at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, ringing up a new mark of 1:51.2 while taking the afternoon's featured $25,000 distaff pace.
Anthony Napolitano got the Deborah Dauget trainee, owned by J J J Stables of North Vancouver, B.C., into a good striking position second-over after front splits of :27 and :55.1, tipping her three-deep shortly after the 1:23.1 three-quarters and then powering off late to be a 2-3/4-length winner over Please Be You (Braxten Boyd) and Wise Professor (Simon Allard).
The top trot on the Monday card was a $23,571 matchup of developing horses, with the Tactical Landing gelding Caballero winning his second straight and third in his last five while reducing his lifetime best to 1:53.3. For the second straight time, Caballero had to go up first-over, but he proved equal to the assignment, wearing down odds-on pacesetter Onemore Volo by 1-1/4 lengths. Anthony Napolitano completed a sweep of the features with the winning steer behind Caballero for hot trainer Anthony Faulkner (eight wins in 34 June starts) and owner Jay Paul Hoover of Ephrata, Pennsylvania.
Pocono’s top driver Tyler Buter had four victories, including bookending the card with Ron Burke trainees – Burke was the only two-time training winner, as each strengthened their respective leads in the Pocono colony. Anthony Napolitano and Braxten Boyd, second and third respectively behind Buter, each had a driving triple.
Trotters of both the fast-class and developing variety will have feature races on the Tuesday 1 p.m. card; there will also be a carryover into the fifth race Pick 5. The next pari-mutuel card after that one, scheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m., will have two-year-olds in their first stakes action at Pocono, with three $30,000 USD divisions of a Pennsylvania All-Stars contest for trotting colts.
