Garrett Rooney expanded his lead atop the Dresden Raceway standings with six successful drives on the Sunday, June 29 afternoon card.
Rooney set the tone for the 10-race card with a natural hat trick right out of the gate, winning the first three races by a combined 18-1/2 lengths. Those pacing winners were the lightly raced sophomore filly All Lynn ($2.40) in a new lifetime mark of 1:58 for trainer Diana McIntosh, the George Robinson-trained nine-year-old mare Mostly Dali ($2.10), who scored her fourth win in row, and six-year-old gelding Sports Section ($2.30), claimed for $9,500 from the Cameron McQueen stable.
A trio of veteran pacers completed Rooney's six-pack. His next winner was the fifth race trailing tier starter, Azucar Pipedream ($11.60). The 10-year-old mare trained by Thomas Hamm prevailed in a closer contest, finishing in front by a quarter of a length. Rooney then swept the final two races, scoring by another big margin in rein to the 12-year-old gelding Big Mach N ($8.40), trained by William Leon, and capping off a Robinson double aboard Phone In ($4.60) as that 11-year-old chestnut gelding prevailed by a quarter of a length for back-to-back Dresden victories.
Rooney pushed his Dresden win count to 22 at the 2025 meet, giving him a 14-win margin in the local driver standings over Donnie Rankin Jr., who had a driving double on Sunday.
The Iona, Ont. reinsman, who is on pace for his fourth straight million-dollar season, has sat behind a total of 124 winners so far this year to rank among the top 10 drivers in Canada.
