Georgian Downs hosts its first Ontario Sires Stakes event of the season on Tuesday, July 2, welcoming 45 two-year-old pacing fillies to Innisfil for their provincial debut.

Four of the young hopefuls hail from the Murray Brethour barn and the Sunderland, Ont. resident gave his charges an advance look at the Georgian Downs oval during qualifying events earlier in the month. Murrayfield will be the first to put that home field advantage to the test, stepping in behind the starting gate at Post 2 in the first division. Dr. Huw Llewellyn of Allenford, Ont. bred and owns the Jeremes Jet daughter, one of seven homebred fillies in the first division.

Brethour’s second entry is Girlsgotmachzie, who makes her bid for glory from Post 6 in the second split. The trainer and Gary Brethour, also of Sunderland, share ownership of the Mach Three daughter.

Brethour’s third entry is also a Mach Three filly, Justabit Mean, who starts from Post 4 in the third division for her trainer, Noblock Racing Stable of Collingwood, Ont., and breeder David Heffering of Port Perry, Ont.

The final entry from the Brethour stable is Jeremes Jet daughter Catwoman, who will benefit from Post 1 in the fourth Grassroots division. Brethour and Heffering share ownership of Catwoman with Doug Millard of Woodstock, Ont.

Last year’s leading trainer Gregg McNair will also send four freshman fillies into the fray Tuesday. The Guelph, Ont. resident will start Regally Ready from Post 9 in Race 2, Lady Shadow from Post 7 in Race 5, Make Way from Post 7 in Race 7, and Momara from Post 6 in the ninth race.

Racing action begins at 7:35 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, with the two-year-old pacing fillies making their debuts in Races 2, 5, 7, 8, and 9.
