Driver Dave Boughton admits he may have misjudged his recovery period when pledging to return driving tonight after a spill at Grand River Raceway on Friday

.

“I may have jumped the gun a bit,” Boughton said this afternoon. “I feel better than I did yesterday, but I’m still plenty sore today. I hope to be back Wednesday, but at this point I’m just playing it by ear.”

Boughton was released from hospital Friday night with nothing more than scrapes and bruises following a spill in race five. “It happened so fast, I didn’t even have time to get the swear words out,” Boughton said of the accident. “Thank God for helmets and safety vests.”

Boughton was x-rayed and released from hospital without any requirement for medical follow-up.

The incident occurred at the top of the stretch, when the leader along the rail, Tommy Knocker, made a break causing confusion and interference among the trailing horses. He finished third and was placed sixth and disqualified.

All three horses (Mcelodian, Daylon Ace and Lucky Artesian) left the track under their own steam.

Drivers Doug McNair and David Edwards were also involved in the spill and were attended to by ambulance crews off the track. McNair booked off the remainder of his drives but was back driving on Saturday with three wins at Woodstock Raceway and a win in the Fan Hanover Consolation with Tiz To Dream.
