Lakota Hall Wins Canada Games Pace

Lakota Hall, under the command of Walter Cheverie, won the Canada Games pace in 1:55.2 Saturday night at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre

Country Estate, with driver Brian MacPhee, burst off the wings to establish control of the pace through a :28.2 opening quarter and :58.2 half mile marker with Lakota Hall rolling fifth on the outside and Porthill Alf and Michael Stevenson following their cover from sixth.

Country Estate hit the three-quarter pole with a two length lead in 1:26.4 before Lakota Hall caught them in late stretch to win the $2,400 purse.

Country Estate held on for second with Porthill Alf grabbing third.

Representatives from the Canada Games committee were trackside for the cooler presentation.

The nine-year-old son of Cambest scored his first win of the season in 10 starts for Cheverie, who co-owns with John Thompson of Charlottetown, P.E.I. Lakota Hall's 40th career win lifted his bankroll to $320,111.

Gary Chappell and Michael Stevenson recorded driving doubles on the night.

Racing returns Wednesday for Canada Day at the Summerside Raceway. Post time is 1 p.m.
