Abby Best Romps In Erwin Andrew

The opening leg of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Series kicked off at Inverness Raceway on Sunday afternoon

, and it was a walk in the park for pacing mare Abby Best and driver Lewis MacDonell.

Abby Best laid down splits of :29.3, :58.2 and 1:28.1 in the $4,243 tilt before storming home in :29.1 en route to the 1:57.2 decision. It was more than 11 lengths back to runner-up For The Luv Abunny. Milliondollarjen grabbed the show dough.

Angus MacLean trains the eight-year-old daughter of Cambest for Travis MacLean of Chelmsford, ON. It was her fourth win of the season in just five trips postward, and it goes down as her 29th lifetime tally. She has banked in excess of $46,000 to date.

The Erwin Andrew Memorial Series, which is sponsored by Meridian Farms, Standardbred Canada and the host tracks, will continue on the following dates:

A scary accident earlier in the day resulted in the sixth race at Inverness Raceway being ruled a “no contest” by the judges.

Rainy Day Review and trainer/driver Charles Fraser made a break while on the lead in the first turn and it caused a chain reaction of interference to the field. Greg Bailey, who was driving Kilkerran Sonnet, and Fraser were dumped from their bikes. There were no details of the conditions of the drivers and the horses involved in the spill.
