Off a pocket ride, Simple Kinda Man claimed victory in the $3,200 Preferred Pace at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday (June 27).

Sitting behind the pacesetter through the mile, driver Jason Hughes sent Simple Kinda Man after the lead into the stretch to collect a narrow victory in 1:54.3. Rose Run Quest finished second by a neck while race-favourite Lisburn was third.

It was win No. 11 of Simple Kinda Man’s career as the five-year-old son of Sportswriter visited the winner’s circle for trainer Chris MacKay and owners D Racing Stable and Donald MacRae.

Hughes scored three other wins on the card, collecting a training triple when driving Jeb to a 1:56.2 win, Lord And Legend in a 1:58.3 win and JK Express in 1:56.3.

Rockin Indy captured the co-featured class in 1:56.3 in line to Adam Merner for owner-trainer Troy Murray of Clyde River. Jetster finished second in the $2,700 event while Silverhill Buddy was third.

Campbell had three winners on the card to continue his stranglehold on the Charlottetown driver’s standings. The Winsloe driver won with Here Comes Red in 1:58.1 for trainer Gerald MacDougall of Lorne Valley then scored a pair of wins from his own barn with Streakazana in 1:57.4 and Messier Seelster in 1:55.3.
