Truro Raceway played host to Hubtown Community Day this past Sunday, and by all reports the event was a big success.

Truro Raceway, along with volunteers from the Truro Harness Horse Owners Association (THHOA), became a hub of action in Colchester County seeing local vendors and organizations on display for the local community to engage with. In addition to a vendor’s market, and a BBQ, the THHOA put on a harness racing display for those in attendance.

Taking center stage on the track were the up and coming two-year-old colts and fillies stabled in Truro. A total of 16 babies went behind the gate. Also on tap were matinee races which saw racing enthusiasts with a varying degree of experience line up behind the gate.

Winners of the matinee races were presented with a race cooler. Matinee race winners were Tristan MacLane, Sarah Bruce, Ryder Rennison, Cy Harvey and Clayton Stevens. Community members witnessed local celebrities battle it out on the track in double-seated jog cart races. The celebrity was teamed up with a raceway regular. Celebrities taking part included the Honourable Karen Casey, MLA of Colchester North, Millbrook First Nation Band Administrator Alex Cope, Truro Police Sgt. Hunka, Cst. Milbury, Cat Country radio host Rod Deviller and returning champion, Tyler Granter.

The THHOA also organized barn tours and double-seater rides for fans of all ages.

“It was heart-warming to see all the horsemen work together on this event, and the smiles on their faces throughout the day. We saw many new faces and I think we showed them how beautiful the sport of harness racing can be,” reflected event organizer and volunteer, Andrea Rennison.

THHOA President, Arleen Gillis would like to thank all horsemen and volunteers for their time and effort in making the day a success, as well as Hubtown Community Day participants, and those who attended.
