For the second straight week, Adorable Killean won the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, but this time around trainer, driver and owner David Hudon used a different strategy to get the job done
.
Last week, the five-year-old Astreos mare used the inside post to her advantage and prevailed in wire-to-wire fashion taking her mark of 1:54.1. This week, the winner of two races in 15 starts this year was assigned Post 5 and had to work off a second-over trip.
Silvery Belle (Darren Howald), who left from Post 1, settled on top ahead of Im Bossy (Don Monkman, Jr) by the first quarter in :27.1. She then led the field to the half in :57 before Red Star Hottie (Brent Beelby) moved up for the challenge en route to three-quarters in 1:25.1 providing Adorable Killean with cover. Entering the stretch, Hudon angled his charge three-wide and she sprinted home in :28.3 to win by two and three-quarter lengths in 1:54.2.
Red Star Hottie was the runner-up with Silvery Belle finishing third.
Adorable Killean scored her 12th lifetime score lifting her bankroll to over $145,000.
Hudon, who scored a training/driving hat trick on the night, also won with Red Star Samper (1:52) in Race 6 and Hinds Feet Hazel (1:56.3) in the 12th and final race.
Saturday night is Fraser Downs’s final night of live racing for the season. Post time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
