Stash The Cookies will be stashing the cheque after capturing the $16,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace at Century Downs on Wednesday, June 25.
Grey Sea (Kelly Hoerdt) fired from the pylons and took command early, while even-money favourite Stash The Cookies and driver Brandon Campbell settled into the pocket trip. The field paced through fractions of :28.1 and :57.2, with Outlawguns N Roses (Mike Hennessy) launching a first-over bid at the half.
Grey Sea continued to lead through three-quarters in 1:26.3, but pressure mounted turning for home as Stash The Cookies powered up the inside. The seasoned mare surged through the passing lane to win in 1:57.1 by a neck, with Grey Sea holding for second and Outlaw Blue Isle (David Kelly) rallying three-wide to claim third.
Trained by John Chappell and owned by Derek Gilbert of Brandon, Manitoba, Stash The Cookies is a nine-year-old mare by Sunfire Blue Chip out of Saucy B. The victory was her third of the season and 44th lifetime, boosting her 2025 earnings to $33,375 and career bankroll to $444,984.
