Wild Finish In CDP Feature

It was a four-horse blanket finish over a sloppy track in Thursday’s feature race at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park, with Van Zant Judge Jon dead-heating for the victory.

Van Zant, in rein to Ron Matheson, and Judge Jon, with Mike Stevenson in the bike, hit the line together in a time of 2:00.2 in the wild affair. Every Day was a bang-up third, with Narragansett taking home a fourth-place cheque. A photo finish was needed in the exciting finish.

Matheson came right back in the finale to score with Artners In Crime to record his 999th career victory. The Charlottetown, PEI reinsman is only one win away from a career milestone, and he could get it this weekend.

Thursday’s card also staged two trot classes with driver Walter Cheverie sweeping both races with Joe Smallwood and Norman Clarey’s JK Queen and Pleasure Girls for owner Shelly Gass. Cheverie also drove Nobestbfor to victory for his third winner of the night over the rain-soaked track. Cheverie is competing in the Drive for Charity promotion and teams up with Red Shores to raise money for Sadie’s Place.

The action shifts to Summerside on Saturday for the Atlantic Regional Driving Championship. Post time is 6:30 p.m.
