Hidden Gem Takes 'Frisky' Final

Hidden Gem held off her main rival, fellow elimination winner Missplacedart, for bragging rights in the $15,700 Frisky Fillies Pacing Series Final on Saturday night at Kawartha Downs

Leaving from Post 3 with trainer Doug Hie in the bike, the four-year-old Real Desire-Hombres Girl mare got away third in front of Post 9 starter Missplacedart (Richard Webb) while Braveheartedmillie (James MacDonald) took control of the nine-horse field from the second starting spot.

After opening panels of :28.1 and :58.2, Missplacedart made her move flushing Hidden Gem, who powered to the top and hit three-quarters in 1:26.3. Hidden Gem held off her looming rival down the stretch to score in 1:55.1 by half a length. Loud Tina (David Ahern) finished almost seven lengths behind in third.

Hidden Gem paid $5.30 to win was the popular choice. She is owned by Millar Farms of Newmarket and Hielite Acres Inc. of Fraserville, Ont. After winning her only start as a sophomore in 2010, Hidden Gem has recorded three wins, five seconds and one third in 12 starts this year to earn a total of $28,465 in her career.
