Second Fancy rallied from her trailing position to get up just in time in the $10,000 Filllies & Mares Open Pace for the 10-1 upset in a track record time of 1:53.4 over a track rated 'good' Saturday afternoon at Alberta Downs

.

Race favourite Goodbadanddeugly N (Jamie Gray) sprinted off the gate from Post 4, clearing around the turn in front of Western Bee (J.F. Gagne) while Second Fancy and trainer-driver Don Monkman Jr. trailed the field after an outside start.

Goodbadanddeugly N was at the first quarter in a sizzling :26.3 before she took a :30.2-second breather as Starring Role (Brandon Campbell) looked to the outside from third. The half was up in :57 with Starring Role advancing to confront the leader past three-quarters in 1:24.2.

As they turned for home, Goodbadanddeugly N was all out but succumbed to pressure as the backfield began to move in on her. Unleashing a :27.3 final frame, Second Fancy came flying home to get up for the victory by a neck over Starring Role with Western Bee and Catch A Dragon (Brent Grundy) right there for third and fourth.

The time of the mile lowered Catch A Dragon’s former track record for aged pacing mares of 1:54.2.

Second Fancy paid $22.50 to win as the second longest shot on the board. The five-year-old daughter of Allamerican Native-Fancy Trouble picked up her first win of the season in 15 tries and ninth overall pushing her earnings to $108,309 for the Don Byrne Stables 2008 and Don M JR Stables of Edmonton, AB.
