
Tyrone Bow Tie brought his best look and his best stride to the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Wednesday, June 25.
As the gate folded, Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) fired off the wings and grabbed the early lead, only to be overtaken by Sonofamillionaire (Robert Shepherd), who cleared to the front through a :27.4 opening quarter. Tyrone Bow Tie, the 4-5 favourite, settled in third early and tracked the leaders through a half in :57.4.
Driver Ryan Guy pulled the trigger past the half, sending Tyrone Bow Tie first over. The five-year-old Lookslikeachpndale-Risk Seeker gelding powered to the lead and never looked back, reaching three-quarters in 1:26.3 and drawing off impressively down the stretch to win in 1:55.1 by 2-1/2 lengths. Rose Run Why Not (Pascal Berube) closed well for second, while Sonofamillionaire held for third.
Trained by Michael Armstrong, Tyrone Bow Tie is owned by Rachel Burns and Wade Tousignant of Cardinal, Ont. Wednesday’s victory marked the trotter's fourth of the season and eighth lifetime, boosting his seasonal earnings to $28,066 and career bankroll to $86,491.
