Multiple stakes winners Prohibition Legal and Twin B Archie headlined the Tuesday, June 25 morning session of qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Back in action after a troubled start in the Roses Are Red Stakes eliminations just over two weeks ago, Prohibition Legal looped fellow Nick Gallucci trainee Winmebak for the lead after a :28.4 opening quarter and clocked middle splits of :56.4 and 1:26 before kicking home in :26.3 for the 1:52.3 qualifying win with James MacDonald in the bike. The four-year-old gelding Winmebak, a Grassroots champion last year, followed 4-3/4 lengths behind in his second qualifier of the season.
Millar Farms owns and bred Prohibition Legal, a five-year-old Big Jim-Catch A Wish mare who is approaching the million-dollar mark in career earnings.
The same connections watched their maiden three-year-old pacing gelding Barstool Mountain (Sunshine Beach-Luck On The Run) post a 1:54 mile in his second qualifying start of the season, finishing on top by three lengths with a :27.3 final quarter.
Former O'Brien Award winner Twin B Archie is on the comeback trail as the five-year-old gelding trotted to a 1:56.4 qualifying win on Tuesday for trainer and co-owner Scott McEneny. Also driven by MacDonald, Twin B Archie set fractions of :29.4, :59.2 and 1:28.1 before holding off All Gas No Brakes by half a length, with the mare Fleurie finishing third.
The 2022 Three-Year-Old Trotting Colt of the Year, who faced the gate just four times last year, Twin B Archie made his second qualifying appearance of the season. A career winner of $776,818 with a record reading 10-6-2 from 28 starts, the Archangel-Affair Hall gelding is owned by McEneny and his partners from the Martwest Racing Stable and Cantucky Farm Inc.
