Sing Like An Angel put away the pacesetter with her backstretch brush and held off the late-closers in the stretch to win Saturday's (June 25) featured $10,500 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Century Downs.

Trainer/driver Travis Cullen sent Sing Like An Angel out from third after race leader Phone Terror (:28.2, :56.3) down the backstretch and collared the front-striding mare at the 1:26.1 third quarter mark. As she drew clear, Skade pursued outside and a from-last Tajmeallover fanned out wide for the stretch drive. However, Sing Like An Angel held command down the lane and prevailed by one length in 1:55.3 while Skade settled for second and favourite Tajmeallover edged out the pocket-pulling Im Gracies Wigwam in a photo for show.

Sing Like An Angel was sent postward as the 5-2 second choice following four top-three finishes since her last Open victory on May 8 and paid $7.30 to win. She now sports a solid seasonal record of 4-4-4 from 13 starts and earnings totalling $37,199.

Cullen shares ownership of the six-year-old Bettors Delight mare, who is now a 44-time career winner with almost $270,000 in lifetime earnings. Cullen's mother Jodie co-owns along with Keith and Margaret Hannah.

The victory was one of four on the nine-race card for Cullen, who will be competing in Sunday's Western Regional Driving Championship. His other Saturday winners were Runway Model ($5.40), Broadview Bridge ($4.20) and Rock Shooter ($7.40).
