Driver Scott Coulter worked out a perfect pocket trip aboard Classic Gent to win Wednesday night's featured $7,000 Preferred 3 Pace at Grand River Raceway.
Classic Gent followed along in the two-hole before scooting up the passing lane in the stretch for the 1:54.2 triumph. Moving off the WEG circuit where he took his mark of 1:51.2 in April, Classic Gent paid $8.10 to win as the 3-1 second choice. The four-year-old Blissfull Hall gelding prevailed by three-quarters of a length with favourite Astute improving one position to take second-place honours over pacesetter Adkins Hanover.
Corey Johnson trains the winner for Ontario owners Rolling Hills Racing Stables of Uxbridge and Dimithri Pieris of Mississauga. Classic Gent now has three wins in 21 starts this year with earnings of $37,260. His lifetime record reads 15-3-6 in 51 starts and his career bankroll stands at $141,485.
