The field for this Sunday's Des Smith Classic Pace has been narrowed with the announcement that

Mattscape Seelster has been scratched out of the $162,000 event.

Officials from Rideau Carleton Raceway have told Trot Insider that the seven-year-old Artiscape horse has been scratched due to lameness.

The career winner of 18 races and $542,000 in purses had drawn the rail for trainer Jerry Sims and driver Roger Mayotte. Mattscape Seelster had been installed at odds of 15-1 in the morning line.
